On the way to the kiln in Sasayama, Kjell and I stopped at an exhibition of Nakajima Yoshsio (中島由夫) in Kobe. A ceramicist in Seto named Minoru Terada invited Kjell and I to an exhibition of him and Nakajima at the Maruei Department store in Nagoya. Kjell could not attend but I did and at that time I learned about an exhibition in Kobe in March. Since I had been in Himeji visiting Kjell’s studio we planned on stopping by the show.
His story as an artist is quite facinating. As a young boy his parents wanted him to become a monk but he knew he wanted to be in the creative fields. He ran away from home to study art, which eventually led him to Europe where he now lives. He greeted us with great hospitality and we had a great time talking about art and life before we had to leave the show. Seeing artists who have made a life creating gives one inspiration.
